The biggest reason that many people quit running is that they fail to prepare before starting their new exercise program. If you don't take the time to prepare you will ultimately set yourself up for failure. The goal is to get into shape by running and here are some tips to get you started!
Find the best running form for you. There are several different techniques and forms for running. Some forms will be good for you, and others will hinder your running ability and cause you to sacrifice too much energy and this is going to affect how quickly you can into shape by running. Learn proper form first and you won't have to go through the painstaking process of breaking bad habits later on.
It pays to plan ahead. When running this means making a schedule that accounts for your time, goals, and how you can work increasing your time and mileage into your program. At a minimum you should schedule out for a week. It is best to have a monthly running calendar planned out ahead of time. As time goes on you can adjust based on your experience. If you find your runs to be too easy, then you should work more increases in throughout the month. Likewise, if your runs are too difficult, ease back a little bit. Over training can have adverse effects!
If it is not fun you won't stick to it. In the beginning as you have to push through it might not be fun. But once you start to get into shape you will find running more enjoyable. But eventually the newness will wear off and it will be necessary to find ways to keep you motivated. One way is by finding people to run with. This can be friends, family, or even a running group in your area. You should also use an MP3 player to listen to your favorite music or catch up on podcasts and audio books. Vary your path and look for new places to run regularly.
There is nothing that will get you into shape faster than running if you put your mind to it and plan ahead!
